There was a bit of a commotion in the centre of Torre del Mar after a parked van went up in flames in the early hours of Sunday.
Residents on smokey street noticed the smoke and flames and phoned in the fire and the Provincial Fire-Service Consortium based in Vélez-Málaga answered the call out and were quickly at the scene, tackling the flames.
In fact, thanks to the prompt arrival of the fire crew, the two vehicles on either side were not consumed by the flames, although both suffered fire damage to their sides, but not enough to be written off.
However, a quad that was parked close to the van did suffer extensive damage, as well as the van itself.
Yet it wasn’t the only fire that was in the capital town of Axarquía lately, as last week fire personnel had to put out a fire in a storage area on private land in the Almayate area at the western end of the municipality.
In this incident, the fire affected several vehicles and items kept on the premises, which lies besides the N-340 near kilometre point 266.
