Strong Wind Closes Ski Resort

Posted on

What should have been a busy day for the Sierra Nevada ski station turned out to be a flop because of gusting high winds, forcing the decision to close the slopes.

The company that runs the ski resort, Cetursahad decided to delay the morning opening of the slopes until 11.00h but when that time came and wind gusts continued to reach 100 kph on the slopes, the decision was taken not to open them at all.

The skiing season began on the 3rd counting initially just on the artificial snow laid down by over 300 snow cannons, providing snow cover of between 20cm and 40cm deep.

They opened five slopes in the Borreguiles area making available 1.9km of slopes using the Emile Allais ski lift. As real snow began to appear they put into action the Al Andalus cable car and the parador ski lift.

One thing to remember is that when using the Al Andalus cable car, masks must be worn, owing to still-in-forced Covid restrictions.
