The Guardia Civil arrested a couple for allegedly cheating an 80-year-old man suffering from dementia out of just about everything.
The 47-year-old woman and 51-year-old man had reportedly managed to make the elderly man pass over the ownership of his properties and included the woman as a joint holder of his bank accounts. They also had him put her down as his sole inheritor on his will (God knows how they managed to achieve that).
Had this not been enough, they had apparently even stolen all his clothes with the intention of selling them, leaving him only with a pair of baggy trousers held up with knotted string.
Their plans came unravelled when the victim’s niece bumped into him, in the company of the two accused, on the street. She asked him who they were and where he was going and he replied that the couple had placed him in a home for the elderly.
The couple refused to say who they were, so she literally took her aged uncle away from them and took him directly to a Guardia Civil post in Pinos Puente to report the situation.
Their investigations discovered that the woman had managed to move in with the victim under the pretense of looking after him and from there set about convincing him to hand everything over to her. It also turns out that the home for the elderly is owned by her accomplice.
The police immediately blocked his bank account to stop anymore money disappearing and are continuing with their investigations to see if the couple had conned more victims.
