Work continues on stabilising the hillside that came done onto the Sierra Nevada road, with traffic now being diverted along two alternative routes.
Bigwigs from the various administrations, the Guardia Civil and the Chairman of the semi-public company that runs Sierra Nevada ski slopes got together at 08.30h this morning to discuss how to tackle the stability and traffic flow problems, given that the ski season is in full swing.
For the time being, drivers wishing to reach Pradollano will detour via the GR-3202 (El Purche) road whilst those wishing to come back down will do it via the GR-3200 (Hazallanas).
It was also decided to let traffic pass along the affected road (A-395 SN), keeping one lane open for heavy-goods vehicles and buses: between 07.30h and 08.00h HGVs and buses can ascend with the first down period at 14.00h to 14.30h. The second time that the road will be opened to HGVs/buses will be between 18.30h to 19.00h.
The Junta Delegate for the province, Antonio Granados, explained once they had determined the extent of the fracture in the hillside which led to the landslide, they would be able to calculate when the road could be reopened to normal traffic use.
