The Plataforma de Discapacitados de la Costa Tropical has just come into being in Salobreña for anybody with mobility problems on the Costa Tropical.
Platform Chairman, Marcelino Torres explained that the association with 160 members from all over the county has a prime objective of highlighting architectural barriers that people with mobility problems have to cope with. It is therefore very important to identify these problematic areas and eliminated them
This can be achieved by substituting them for ramps and making wider pavements with lowered curbs in places to facilitate access. There is also a need for more adapted, public toilets.
It is very important, they consider, that adequate access is taken into account when designing new buildings and public spaces, which can be achieved through experts in accessibility and consulting associations for people with mobility problems, for example.
Anybody interested in contacting them can do so by going onto their facebook account: Costa Tropical Disabled Platform.
