Salobreña has been busy getting together a Protección Civil unit for the municipality and little by little it is taking shape.

The move to reactivate this volunteer service began in December – there had been one before but it had disappeared due to a lack of volunteers.

Now, they have received all the necessary equipment, but this has not only been down to the Town Hall because many local businesses have chipped in with donations to provide uniforms etc, for instance.

In fact, Mayor María Eugenia Rufino expressed her gratitude for the generosity shown by local business, who have provided computers, medical equipment & supplies, fire-protection equipment and uniforms.

She also congratulated the volunteers and their Coordinator, Bienvenido Guijarro, without whom there would be no Salobreña Civil Protection.

The Coordinator, or Chief, explained that they now had 19 volunteers, starting next month once their training has been completed.
