Ever heard of Snow Running? Well, it has been taking place on Sierra Nevada since 2012.
The official website says, “Runners enjoy the thrill of the start at dusk. The sunset and the silence as darkness falls, with only the sound of footfall in the snow floating through the night.” OK, so they’re also crazy, but hey!
The race first took place in 2012 and since then it has become an experience truly “different from the rest.” This year’s competition wil be held in January on the 27th, when the Vertical race takes place and on the 28th when the Classic version is run.
On the 27th, they set out at 18.00 and conclude at 20.30h:
18:00 – Official start Snow Running Sierra Nevada Vertical (at the end of Pista del Río)
18:40 – Approximate arrival of the first runner.
20:00 – Approximate arrival of the last runner.
20:30 – Prize-giving ceremony (at the Telecabina cinema).
The next day the time table for the Classic version will look like this:
18:30 – Official start (at the end of river track)
19:30 – Approximate arrival of the first runner.
21:30 – Approximate arrival of the last runner.
21:30 – Prize-giving ceremony (at the Telecabina cinema).
As for distances involved, the race on the 27th will cover approximately 4.3 km with a climb of 950 m, whilst the one on the 28th will cover 12.7 km with an ascent of 920 metres.
