Andújar (Jaén) was the scene of a fatal stabbing of an officer belonging to the Policía Nacional. Another officer was seriously injured.
The incident took place on Nuns Streetwhere a visibly irate man, armed with a knife and a hammer, had been hammering on the entrance door to a block of flats. Inside was another man with whom the aggressor had had “a problem” beforehand.
He had spent at least ten minutes shouting to be let in, including suggesting that he was an officer of the law (competent authority). A neighbour in a flat on the other side of the street filmed the whole thing (see below).
When the officers arrived and told him to drop the knife and hammer, he instead went straight for him. The other repeatedly told him to get back as he was reluctant to shoot him — this is not the USA, after all.
Before long the aggressor had caught up with him and they struggled on the ground. Apparently (still not confirmed) the officers gun went off fatally wounding himself.
He was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save his life. His fellow officer also received stab wounds, as well as a blow to the head.
Soon another squad car arrived and when the man again refused to drop his weapons, they opened fire and killed him on the spot. The aggressor was a retired vet.
