Two weeks after a fatal air accident involving a light aircraft, rescue personnel have managed to locate the body of the pilot.

The 54-year-old pilot, Guillermo Álvarez, had taken off from the Matilla of the Caños airfield (Valladolid) with a passenger onboard and had disappeared. The wreckage of the aircraft was found on the 18th of December near Villamarciel, as well as the body of the passenger, Beatriz Cantos, who was the manager of the airfield.

Then, yesterday morning the body of the pilot, who was also the Vice-Mayor of Geria, was found in a river near San Miguel del Pino.

San Miguel del Pino is a fishing village, which is about four kilometres downstream from where the wreckage was found (about 100 metres from water). It was a Search & Rescue aircraft that located the body.

The body was found floating near the right bank of Douro Rivercaught up on branches from an overhanging tree. SAR divers found the pilot’s ID on the body. Yesterday afternoon the coroner gave permission for the body to be moved and taken to a morgue.
