Nerja Town Hall wants to fire up a dormant project to create a ‘green lung’ at the eastern edge of town.

More precisely, it’s the area between the N-340 heading towards Maro and the housing estates next to Burriana beach.

Major Jose Alberto Armijo (PP) and the Councilor for European Resources, Maria del Carmen Lopez (Cs), pushed through the first phase of the future ‘green ring’ on the municipal land plots UE-26-23 and adjacent uncultivated areas.

We’re talking about 25,566 sq/m between Lucena Street & Ubeda Streetand the old main road.

Councillor López said that it has a budget of 438,010 euros, co-funded with a grant from European Regional Development Funds (80%). The Town Hall will foot the remainingl 20%.

This greenbelt area will have a footpath stretching 800 metres, from north to south. It will be accessible from the N-340 and from Antequera Street, Teba Street and Ubeda Street. Some of the land will have to be cleared off and other parts will have the existing vegetation spruced up.
