The jockeying for position for the coming Municipal Elections in May causes some politicians to jump ship, which is the case of the one councillor in Nerja.
Jeffrey Taylor Martínez held the only councillor’s seat in the Town Council for the far-right party, Voxbut he has now decided to pass to the For My People (PMP).
Vox national leader, Santiago Abascal, has since nominated Iván Jullit to be their candidate for Mayor. Mr Taylor, aged 39, says that Vox is OK with his decision.
The PMPon the other hand, has said that they are setting up a party of young people and veterans from all walks of life, including those having served with other political parties, like Mr Jefferys, who has said that he would be quite happy to be the PMP’s candidate for Mayor.
In March 2022, Jeffrey Taylor, voted against endorsing a manifesto condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during a video-conference, council meeting. All other political parties voted in favour of the declaration, which was written by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). Taylor claimed that while he agreed with the content of the manifesto, he considers the FEMP to be “shady.”
