Lorry Burns on A-7 | Costa Tropical Gazette News

As a result of a lorry catching fire on the A-7 where it passes through the municipality of Salobreña the autovía was closed heading in the Málaga direction.

Several drivers had phoned in to report the accident around 07.35h this morning, as well as the driver, himself, after bringing it to a halt on the hardshoulder.

He had seen a lot of smoke coming from his vehicle in his side mirror, and immediately pulled over. No sooner had he drawn to a halt when flames erupted from his lorry, which was carrying breeze blocks for construction.

Smoke soon reduced visibility on the autovía to nil or very little, causing traffic to slow right down, causing tailbacks. However, the Almuñécar fire service was soon at the scene, tackling the fire. They were later joined by the Motril fire service, the Guardia Civil traffic police and road maintenance workers.

According to 112, nobody was hurt, not even the driver and the only damage was that caused to the lorry, so there was little to lament except the problems with traffic flow.
