A man working at the firework factory within the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla was criticially injured following an explosion.

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon just before 16.15h. The factory owners phoned 112 to say that one of the workers has received extensive burns to his body and injuries to one of his arms when material that he was working with detonated.
The 39-year-old victim was rushed to the ICU at the Virgen de Las Nieves, Neurotraumatology Hospital.
He was almost immediately operated upon but the percentage of burns to his body could make his pulling through unlikely, unfortunately.
