A Rapid Arrest | Costa Tropical Gazette News

A young man was arrested in Salobreña, accused of carrying out an act of larceny on one of its beaches.

The 25-year-old man took advantage of the fact that the victim was engrossed in a game of petanque in order to allegedly steal a backpack.

Inside, it contained several personal effects whose combined value passed 1,000 euros, amongst which were prescription glasses and a mobile phone.

Upon realising that his backpack had disappeared, he reported it to the Guardia Civil post in Salobreña and the police opened an investigation into the theft.

Shortly afterwards, the Policía Local informed the Guardia Civil that they had come across a known offender in possession of a mobile phone that was not his own – he didn’t know the pin and couldn’t provide a plausible explanation as to how it came into his possession. They did not detain him, however but just verified his ID and let him go, minus the phone.

The Guardia Civil then contacted the victim and asked him to identify the mobile phone as his own, which he did and so it was returned to him. They then scoured Salobreña for the individual and soon found him and arrested him.
